About this Event
A Special Partnership: The Legacy of Florence Price
Walker West Music Academy is honored to partner with MN Opera to host a powerful evening celebrating the life and music of composer Florence Price—the first African American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer. This event sets the stage for the world premiere of the new opera, My Name is Florence.
About the Event
Join us for a dynamic panel discussion featuring B.E. Boykin, the composer of the opera, alongside other distinguished Black women scholars and musicians. The panel will delve into Price’s profound impact on classical music and culture.
The evening will also include a special musical tribute that features performances by our acclaimed Kamoinge Strings and a cast member from MN Opera, creating a powerful connection between Price's legacy and the next generation of artists.
This is more than an event; it's an opportunity to connect with a vital piece of musical history.
Exclusive Offer: All attendees will receive special opera ticket discount codes for the My Name is Florence world premiere. Additionally, we will offer 50 complimentary tickets to WWMA students, families, and staff for the opera premiere later in January.
