Happening at Perfect Books Ottawa, at 7pm on November 12th, you'll hear Ottawa poet Doris Fiszer, "If I Were a River" (2023); Montreal poet/author Carolyne Van Der Meer, "All This As I Stand By" (2024); and Kingston poet Bruce Kauffman, "still arriving" (2023) each reading from their latest books, and possibly other work as well. Bios:
Doris Fiszer is an Ottawa poet. Her publications include two Silver Bow poetry collections: If I Were A River, 2023 and Locked in Different Alphabets, 2020 which was a finalist for the 2021 Archibald Lampman Award. She is also the author of two chapbooks, The Binders and Sasanka (Wild Flower). Her poems have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies across Canada and the United States. She serves as a first reader for Arc Poetry Magazine. She is a retired Business Communications Professor who enjoys playing the piano and spending time with her family.
Carolyne Van Der Meer is a Montreal journalist, public relations professional and university lecturer. Her articles, essays, short stories and poems have been published internationally. Her five published books are: Motherlode: A Mosaic of Dutch Wartime Experience (WLUP, 2014); Journeywoman (Inanna, 2017); Heart of Goodness: The Life of Marguerite Bourgeoys in 30 Poems | Du Coeur à l’âme : La vie de Marguerite Bourgeoys en 30 poèmes (Guernica Editions, 2020); Sensorial (Inanna, 2022) and All This As I Stand By (Ekstasis Editions, 2024). Chapbook publications include One Week’s Worth but a Lifetime More (Local Gems Press, 2022) and Broken Pieces: Hospital Experiences (2023); Birdology is forthcoming from Cactus Press in early 2025. Bruce Kauffman moved to Kingston in 2001 and is a poet, editor, and organizer of literary events. His written work has appeared in zines, anthologies & journals, two chapbooks, and five collections of poetry. His latest, still arriving, launched in late spring 2023. Beyond writing and editing, he facilitates intuitive writing workshops. Since 2009 he’s organized and hosted the monthly ‘and the journey continues’ open mic reading series. And in 2010 he debuted his weekly radio show, ‘finding a voice’, on CFRC 101.9fm, and continues to produce and host that poetry focused show. He also has a personal blogspace for that show.
