This presentation with Dr. Card will explore the critical public health issue of loneliness and social isolation, emphasizing the importance of addressing these challenges through evidence-based social psychological research. It will begin by discussing the public health relevance of social connection and its vital role in promoting well-being and preventing various adverse health outcomes.
The talk will underscore the need for translational research to effectively mobilize social psychological findings into practical interventions. A social ecological framework for intervention will be outlined, demonstrating how individual, interpersonal, community, and societal factors can be leveraged to enhance social connection. Additionally, the presentation will introduce the role of public health guidelines as a key tool for facilitating translational scholarship, illustrating how these guidelines can bridge the gap between research and practice to develop more effective public health strategies for combating loneliness and social isolation.
