CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center is excited to announce that after receiving a generous grant from Arts Midwest, we will be hosting a series of programming focusing on LGBTQ+ oppression during the Holocaust. This often overlooked history led to the imprisonment of between 5,000 and 15,000 mainly gay men with a roughly 60% death rate. This unjust persecution was led by the Nazis under "Paragraph 175," which banned homosexuality in Germany and occupied zones.
Between June 26th and 28th, we will be hosting 3 performances of the newly released play "A Pink Triangle" written by Kirby Taylor at The District Theatre in Indianapolis. This compelling two-person performance explores the forgotten history of LGBTQ+ persecution in Nazi Germany. The drama focuses on an estranged father and his gay son trying to reconcile in Auschwitz during the Holocaust. The play aims to foster conversations about resilience, humanity, and the fight for identity during this dark historical period.
The writer Kirby Taylor will be speaking following each performance, and an exhibition will be held in the lobby that explores the themes of LGBTQ+ victims of the Holocaust. Recommended for ages 13 and older, we invite you to join us for this impactful performance and purchase your tickets now before they sell out!
