Celebrate Aldo Leopold Week by joining local conservation experts on Saturday, March 7th, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM for an engaging exploration of Aldo Leopold’s enduring reflections on Wisconsin’s landscapes and wildlife.Hosted by the Waukesha County Land Conservancy and the Waukesha County Environmental Action League, this program will feature a guided, read-aloud discussion of selected passages from A Sand County Almanac, paired with thoughtful conversation about how Leopold’s words continue to shape our relationship with the land today. Enjoy coffee and hot cocoa as you listen, reflect, and connect with fellow conservation enthusiasts. The New Berlin Public Library will generously provide extra copies of the book for participants.
Originally published in 1949, A Sand County Almanac chronicles Leopold’s observations of the flora and fauna of southern Wisconsin over a forty-year period. His vivid descriptions of nature are woven together with philosophical reflections on seasonal rhythms, wildlife, and humanity’s responsibility to the land. With more than two million copies sold, the book is widely regarded as a revolutionary work that transformed how we think about conservation, land management, and stewardship.
This free, family-friendly event invites participants of all ages to reflect on Leopold’s legacy and consider how his words continue to guide modern conservation efforts in our communities today.
