Dear Morris Owners,
A few years ago, Eric Kelly came up with an idea to have dinner with all of the Morris owners in Southern California. It never happened, but the great idea has stuck in my mind all this time. We have not been able to find a place with enough parking, cost effective, and central to all. The problem ends up that MOST of you are afraid to drive your cars on the freeways. Well, let’s not let that be a concern. This is a Saturday event so traffic will be light. LET’S GET TOGETHER!
This December Sandy and I found what we believe is a central location point for us all. A family owned restaurant that has lots of parking space, good food, is relatively inexpensive, freeway convenient and easy to find. Eat breakfast, or just have a cup of coffee/tea, whatever you can afford. Score! www.theonlyplaceintown.com Food is standard American breakfast fair and plenty of it The Only Place in Town also serves lunch and dinners. Parking is not a problem here. The restaurant is backed up to a city of Sierra Madre parking lot. This is a two-block long parking lot that is a block wide. TOTALLY FREE parking. The only thing is no overnight parking. However, we are meeting at 9:30 so the overnight deal should not be an issue. The parking lot is safe and patrolled.
Sierra Madre is located off the 210 freeway just east of Pasadena. It is easy to get to via Baldwin Ave off ramp which is a major connection on the 210, and the town is one mile north. The restaurant is two blocks west of Baldwin on the main street – Sierra Madre Blvd. Driveways on both sides of the restaurant lead to the parking lot. There is a bank with an ATM directly next door to The Only Place in Town. EASY!
Since Eric mentioned this to me years ago, I have wanted to do it (so has he). Now that we have found a central place, I hope that all of you, and your significant others, will want to do it too and join us. This is a Morris North America, Southern California chapter event put on by Steve and Sandy and is not associated with Ol Phartz Partz event. This is about Morris people and Morris cars only. Fun, Fun, Fun.
Meet like minded people, talk cars(Morris maybe), share your stories, enjoy good food, and just have a great time. Fun is the key word. Please come to enjoy the company of other Morris lovers/owners. I know Sierra Madre is not West LA, not Ventura, not Simi Valley, not the Inland Empire, Orange County or San Diego or the Coast, but all of you will have the same drive distance. Sorry, but I cannot move it to one location that is convenient for just one person. No bitching. We all have the same drive. Me, I have to drive 2-1/2 hours to get there too.
Tony Burgess of the North American Morris register is behind me on the event and it is considered a club event. So, let’s make it a club event. Wear your Morris gear. Dress like an Englishman or just be yourself. Please come and enjoy. Stay as long as you want. Enjoy the village. Drive around and see some sites. Maybe we can organize a small tour. We may have some great surprises for you too.
