A Month O Muins with Anne Pia
About this Event
Dr. Anne Pia, poet, essayist and translator, writes in English, French, Italian and Scots. She was a Saltire Award Finalist for First Best Book: Language of my Choosing; winner of the Crawford Gallery Cork, Flash Fiction Competition in 2020 and in 2018 was awarded the prestigious Premio Flaiano Italianistica: La Cultura Italiana nel Mondo. She is an Associate of the Centre for Poetic Innovation at the University of St Andrews; a member of the Guild of Food Writers; and has sat on the judging panel for the Saltires: Scottish National Book Awards (Poetry and Non-Fiction).
From un mariage á trois, breast feeding kittens, rumpus at the Baptismal font and otherworldly lovemaking; with a whiff of Mozart’s Queen of the Night; faint aromas of Baudelaire; a hint of Dante’s selva oscura and Orpheus who tragically did look back, A Month O Muins Anne Pia’s new poetry collection in Scots is an often humorous, wry, subversive and consistently tender versioning of the poems and songs of the iconic, widely celebrated singer-songwriter, Georges Brassens: the “Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen of France.
Inspired by the 19th century lyric poet, Modernist and flaneur Charles Baudelaire, and the Bob Dylan/Leonard Cohen of France… troubadour, Bard, George Brassens, Anne Pia draws on her Scottish roots and her lifelong connection with France to read from her two acclaimed poetry collections The Sweetness of Demons and A Month O Muins: …responses, musings and imaginings in English and Scots, to these great poets.
