A Little Bird Told Me, Through the Grain and the Lens:

In this collaborative exhibition, Heather Lee Kolbo and Gary Grossman explore the avian world through two distinct yet harmonious perspectives.

Heather Lee Kolbo’s wood intarsia offers a tactile, structural response to her subjects. By utilizing the natural variations in wood grain to mimic the intricate complexity of plumage, she gives these birds a physical, grounded presence that feels carved from the very heart of nature. Her work invites the viewer to appreciate the permanence and texture of the natural world.

In dialogue with these wooden forms, Gary Grossman’s photography seizes the "decisive moment"—the golden light hitting a flock at dusk or the rhythmic symmetry of cranes in flight. His lens renders the ephemeral permanent, capturing the fragility, speed and atmospheric mystery of life on the wing.

From the vibrant, stylized sprawl of a peacock to the silent stare of a short-eared owl, A Little Bird Told Me is an invitation to pause and listen to the ancient, wordless stories of the sky.

A Little Bird Told Me will be featured in the front windows of Alberta Street Gallery from March 26 through April 27, with an artists' reception on Last Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 9pm. Come join us and meet the artists!
