About this Event
A lecture with Nick Cox: 'Surviving Antarctic Winters'
Nick Cox has worked in polar regions every year for 48 years. He joined the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in 1975 spending three winters and many summers on their bases and in the field. He was a boatman, carpenter, dog driver and field guide spending months in the field with scientists living in tents and travelling on skidoos. He was also a base commander (both Arctic and Antarctic) for thirty-five years.
Join us for a fascinating talk as Nick shares his experiences surviving Antarctic winters and discusses the period in the UK’s Antarctic history between World War II and the Falklands War when funding was relatively low, means of communication limited and bases were basic by modern standards.
