A meditative craft experience
About this Event

In this experience, you will learn about crafts of the past and make handcrafted objects as you explore possibilities for a future that is digital yet deeply human.

Your host will be Trish Talob, an artist-researcher and meditation teacher who explores the concept of preserving "human-ness" in a digital world (https://www.instagram.com/daily.warosoku/)

What to expect

Each aspect of the experience encourages you to connect with the world around you and with others in non-digital/analog ways.

  • Craft Object Show-and-Tell: Trish will show and talk about objects that inspire people to envision a future that is digital yet deeply human. She will share traditional Japanese craft objects from her personal collection, as well as objects she has made herself.
  • Meditative Crafting: Trish will guide you through a few simple craft activities in a meditative way

You will leave the experience with…

  • a new perspective on craft
  • a notebook handmade by Trish, which you can use for recording mindful observations, thoughts etc
  • a few origami envelopes made by you, which you can use to communicate with someone special in an analog way
  • a set of rolled beeswax candles made by you, which you can use for mindful moments or celebrations
  • a simple air dry clay holder for the candles

Location

2nd floor of the Simply Native store. Please note that the event space can only be accessed via stairs.

You will need to take your shoes off to step on tatami-matted areas in the event space. You may want to consider wearing socks for your comfort.

What will be provided

  • All materials you will need for the meditative craft activities
  • Tea

What to bring

A curious mindset. Previous craft or meditation/mindfulness experience is not required.
