A Healthy Dose of Humour is a night of wellbeing and laughter brought to you in partnership with Lost Sock Productions, Essex County Council and Healthwatch Essex’s Fellas' Fair – the county’s leading men’s health and wellbeing event.

The evening features two brilliant top professional stand-up comedians from the prestigious UK stand-up circuit.

Before the comedy begins, listen to our guest speakers talk about a wide variety of topics affecting men's health, ranging from addiction to mental health and long-term conditions.

A panel discussion will follow, with the opportunity for guest questions.

Sit back, listen, learn and laugh the night away with us this May at Basildon Towngate Theatre.

Taking to the Basildon Towngate Theatre stage we welcome comedians:-

Rich Wilson ‘He's a Very Very Funny Man’ - Frank Skinner . | “Always fantastic!! - Omid Djalli Multi award-winning & international comedian Rich Wilson is one of the country’s finest comedians and popularly regarded as the UK's best MCs by many top comedians, such as Frank Skinner, Richard Herring and Sarah Millican. Rich was nominated for Best Show at the Leicester Comedy Festival 2024 and Best MC at the 2023 Chortle awards. Most recently Rich was voted as the best MC in the UK by fellow comedians at the comedian’s comedian awards. Rich Wilson is also is the man behind the critically acclaimed podcasts Insane in the Menbrain & Insane in The Fembrain. Rich talks to funny and interesting people about their experiences with mental health. The podcast has also been nominated for an award with Podbible. Also, an extremely in demand writer, Rich has also contributed on shows for BBC Three, Sky Arts and Channel 4.

Mike Gunn Live at The Apollo (BBC) , Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC), “One of the 10 leading stand-ups in Britain” Independent on Sunday Mike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. A misspent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated his cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist, he describes himself as “not a natural choice for a career in laughter”. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likable and funny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly, a touch dark and even morose is really not true. In real life he’s loving, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood. Early in his career Mike was supporting the likes of Jo Brand and Alan Davies and recently supported Lee Mack on his huge UK tour. He now headlines at all the top comedy venues in the UK and is rapidly reaching cult status on the circuit.

Doors open at 7 pm.

The stand-up comedy begins at 9pm.
