How should one behave at a “julebord” or Norwegian Christmas party? What’s the deal with “friluftsliv”, and how can one understand Norwegian eating habits? Why do Norwegians have words like “rumpetroll” (tadpole), and “hybelkaniner” (dust bunnies)? It’s not easy to understand these strange people living between fjords and mountains!
Lorelou Desjardins uses her own experiences when she describes Norwegian life. She takes Norwegian language courses, starts a new job, goes on cabin trips, tries skiing, celebrates the 17th of May, and tries to find love — and, not least, to “kose seg” (enjoy oneself).
The result is often humorous, but can also be thought-provoking, offering insights into what it means to be Norwegian.
Desjardins is from Marseille and has lived in Norway since 2010. She is a trained lawyer and has written the popular blog “A Frog in the Fjord” for many years. This blog has also led to a book of the same title, published in Norwegian, English, and French versions.
She shares her experiences with Norway this evening. It’s interesting and entertaining both for those who know Norwegian habits all too well and for those who want to get to know them better.
This event will be in English.
Free and open to everyone.
