The Penn and Stanford Alumni Clubs of San Diego invite you to our next biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences event featuring Dr. Shuling Guo and Lauren Hay.


Shuling Guo, PhD

Dr. Shuling Guo is Vice President, Biology and Associate Site Head San Diego at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. She spent over 17 years at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, rising from Senior Scientist to Vice President of Antisense Drug Discovery, where she led discovery programs across the CardioRenal, Metabolic, and Pulmonary disease areas. Earlier in her career, she worked at the UCLA Stem Cell Center on human embryonic stem cell culture and differentiation, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Owen Witte studying the regulation of Bruton's tyrosine kinase in B cell development. She currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society. Dr. Guo earned her BS from Shandong University and her PhD in Molecular Cancer Biology from Duke University.

Lauren Hay, MBA

Lauren Hay is Vice President, Portfolio Strategy & Investments at Ligand Pharmaceuticals, where she previously served as Vice President, Strategic Planning & Investment Analytics. Her career spans royalty monetization and life sciences strategy consulting, including roles as Vice President at DRI Capital, Senior Consultant at The Frankel Group, and 12 years as Managing Director of her own consulting firm, Hay Advisory Corporation, advising private equity and biopharmaceutical companies on forecasting, valuation, and business development. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Primrose Bio, as President of the Board of Directors of the Hemophilia Council of California and is an active volunteer for the Stanford Alumni Association. Lauren holds a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and an MBA in Health Care from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
