About this Event
On the Feast of St. John Paul II: a Feast for the Eyes, Ears, and Tastebuds and the Soul
Join us for our second Evening for Artists and Art Lovers in San Francisco.
Join us October 22 at 6 p.m. for our in-person ONLY Benedict XVI Institute event, on the Feast of John Paul the Great: pope, saint, artist.
We will gather together in the old chapel of Holy Family convent (across the street from Star of the Sea-SF) to:
read together excerpts from St. John Paul II's Letter to Artists
reflect on our call as artists and also our call as humans to craft a life.
Bring a poem of your own, or a poem that you love to read and share. (This is not a requirement, but it is a gift to your fellow artists and art lovers).
We will close by chanting a Litany together. (If you are a singer and would like to lead this chant, let me know? [email protected]).
Afterwards, join us in the dining room for some delicious homecooked spaghetti. Or possibly peanut noodles - I haven't quite decided!
A suggested donation of $20 (or more) will help cover the expenses but the gift of your presence is most devoutly desired regardless. Register please so I know how many cookies to bake.
See you there!
Blessings,
Maggie (Gallagher)
A Message from St. John Paul II
"In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art. Art must make perceptible the world of the spirit, of the invisible, of God. It must therefore translate into meaningful terms that which is in itself ineffable."
Pope John Paul II, 1999 Letter to Artists.
