A Day of Prayer and Holy Remembrance
Thursday, August 13 | Oak Lawn United Methodist Church
On Thursday, August 13, faith communities across the nation will pause in prayer as three executions are scheduled to take place in Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alabama.
We invite you to join us for a day of prayer, lament, and hope as we remember every life affected by violence. Together, we will pray for the victims and their loved ones, those scheduled for execution, their families, correctional staff, chaplains, attorneys, and all who carry the weight of the death penalty.
As a public witness, the bells of Oak Lawn United Methodist Church will ring:
🔔 10:00–11:00 a.m.
🔔 6:00–7:00 p.m.
In the evening, we will gather for a Community Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by Prayers of the People at 7:30 p.m., offered both in person and online via Zoom.
This gathering is not about politics. It is about prayer.
As followers of Christ, we believe every person bears the image of God. We gather to hold grief, accountability, mercy, and hope together, trusting that God's justice always calls us toward healing, reconciliation, and peace.
