About this Event
Who it’s for:
This workshop is aimed at beginners, If you're interested in a day of art and craft involving a variety of creative techniques, this is for you. The day focuses on playful self-expression, curiosity, experimentation, connection and community.
There are no rules, no previous experience needed.
Here are just some of the creative mediums we'll be covering:
- Make something in Clay, draw it using charcoal
- Create a design using lino and then print it.
- Paint an abstract self-portrait onto canvas using acrylic paints
- Simple water colour techniques - abstract landscapes, seascapes and plants
A fully guided, practical creative experience. Across the day, you’ll work through a series of distinct creative sessions, each offering a different way into thinking, feeling and making. Some are slower and more tactile, others lighter and more playful — designed to keep energy moving and ideas flowing.
You might already enjoy creative work or are a complete beginner. You might be returning to it after a long gap. You might simply want a day that feels different from the usual routines, classes and workshops on offer.
Come on your own, come with friends, the day is shared, it’s about being playful, it's friendly, social and grounded in the act of making together.
Get messy
We start the day making something using clay, a beautiful, tactile, natural material. You'll then use charcoal to draw your clay sculpture and the various objects made by the group. We'll also cover a range of charcoal techniques to help you develop your sketching skills and boost your confidence.
Lino printing
The appeal of lino printing is in it's simplicity, resulting in unique and satisfying prints every time. It's a low-tech, hands-on process that allows for a lot of experimenting and creativity. Plus once you have your design you can print your designs in a variety of colours, they'll make excellent personalised cards, postcards and notes to give to friends and family.
Abstract portrait painting
This is one of our most popular workshops, we'll guide you through a series of warm up drawing exercises & playful painting techniques. You'll slowly develop your ideas, composition & colour choices. We then get the canvas out, using acrylics you can choose to paint an abstract self-portrait or your partner /friend if you've come with someone.
Landscapes + Seascapes using watercolours and ink
With a few simple techniques we’ll give you the confidence to start experimenting with watercolours and ink. These are not mediums to be scared off, resulting in some very impressive artwork, ideal for working at small scale for personalised cards and postcards.
Creative surprises
Throughout the day we'll be throwing in a few creative surprises, introducing you to some short, playful, creative art techniques. Hirameki is one example, it's a Japanese techique using watercolour splotches to create playful characters including animals and birds.
We have an added bonus
If you bring a plain a t-shirt along, as a thank you for coming, we will print your favourite design (A4 size) from the day onto a t-shirt, free of charge! On the front or back.
