This concert celebrates one of Sardinia’s most vibrant musical traditions: multipart singing. Across the island, this genre is typically performed by four singers, with its rich traditions passed down orally from generation to generation. Each region and village contributes its own distinct techniques, repertoires, and lyrical themes, rooted deeply in the social life of the community. One of the most representative forms of Sardinian multipart singing is cuncordu, a term that not only describes the harmonious blending of voices but also the unity of the group performing the song. This concert will showcase the culmination of a semester-long exploration of this tradition, focusing on two main variants of Sardinian multipart singing. The performers have dedicated themselves to mastering seven traditional cuncordu songs, all performed in the Sardinian language (sardu) and in some cases in latin. These pieces reflect the beauty of Sardinia’s musical heritage and will be presented by different ensembles, each contributing their unique vocal timbre to the harmony. The performance will be intertwined with a multimedia presentation that highlights the Sardinian multipart singing tradition and provides context for each song performed. We invite you to enjoy this journey through Sardinia’s rich multipart singing culture.
