A Crucial Conversation with Author Nico Lang
About this Event
Conversations about transgender youth are often shaped by headlines, political debates, and social media. What we hear far less often are the voices of the young people and families living these experiences every day.
As part of Queer Allyship's mission to create opportunities for learning, understanding, and meaningful dialogue, A Crucial Conversation with author and journalist Nico Lang brings together Nico and moderator Jim Obergefell to explore Nico's groundbreaking book, American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era, which shines a light on the lives of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive teens across the United States.
Over the course of a year, Nico traveled the country, spending hundreds of hours with transgender and gender-diverse young people, their families, and the communities around them. The result is a deeply human portrait that moves beyond stereotypes and sound bites, inviting readers to better understand the real lives, hopes, challenges, and resilience of these young people.
Whether you're a parent, educator, ally, or simply someone who wants to better understand the experiences of transgender youth, this conversation offers an opportunity to listen, learn, and engage with empathy.
