Stories, Law and the Living World
A We Are Nature Collective event
Following a year of collective walks, creative gatherings and conversations across North-East Scotland, We Are Nature Collective invites you to an evening with Monica Feria-Tinta, award-winning barrister, international environmental lawyer and author of the critically acclaimed A Barrister for the Earth.
Bringing together community, creativity and environmental justice, this special conversation explores how law, storytelling and collective action can help shape a more just relationship with the natural world. Drawing on her pioneering work on the Rights of Nature and climate justice, Monica will reflect on landmark legal cases that have advanced protections for ecosystems and examine how environmental justice is inseparable from questions of human rights, belonging and our shared future.
Described as "one of Britain's most dazzling legal minds," Monica has been recognised as a finalist for Barrister of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2025, named Woman of the Year at the Women & Diversity in Law Awards 2025, and was The Times' first Lawyer of the Week in 2025. Her book A Barrister for the Earth, described as "a vital book for our times", was a finalist for the Westminster Book Awards, selected by Forbes as one of its climate books to read for 2026, and is currently being adapted into a television drama.
Hosted by the We Are Nature Collective in collaboration with Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC), the Environmental Arts and Humanities Network, University of Aberdeen, and the National Literacy Trust's National Year of Reading 2026 – Go All In Campaign, this event celebrates the power of reading, dialogue and lived experience to inspire environmental stewardship and collective action.

We Are Nature Collective is a women-led creative group rooted in North-East Scotland. Together the group walks, listens, and creates, exploring the threads between people, place, and planet. The collective’s work centres climate and land justice, recognising that the ecological crisis is inseparable from questions of social and economic justice. Through collective walks, creative prompts, and exhibitions, they create spaces where diverse women – including those who are racialised, migrant, or living with limited resources – can bring their lived experience into dialogue with wider community and policy conversations.
