Jed Perl is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books and author of many books, including Authority and Freedom: A Defense of the Arts (Knopf, 2022), Calder: The Conquest of Space (Knopf, 2020), and New Art City: Manhattan at Mid-Century (Vintage, 2007), which was a New York Times Notable Book. He has written for Harper's, The New Criterion, and The Yale Review, received awards from The Guggenheim Foundation, The American Academy in Rome, and The Ingram-Merrill Foundation, and is editor of the Library of America anthology Art in America: 1945-1970.
