Meet local shoe designer and FGI Rising Star Accessory Designer, Chris Donovan. Learn about his career change decision that led him on a fashion design journey just like yours! Chris will provide a slide presentation and talk about his work and career path, followed by a Q&A style interview, facilitatedby one of our own SFD students.About Chris Donovan: Growing up Irish Catholic, design wasn’t seen as a viable career path for Chris Donovan, leading him to spend 25 years as a mainframe repairman while secretly sketching shoes on scraps of paper. With encouragement from Aki Choklat, Chris pursued a Masters in Footwear at Polimoda Fashion Institute at 55, despite often being mistaken for the janitor. A turning point came when Tim Gunn praised his designs on national TV, declaring, "Have I seen this before? No. Does the world need it? Yes!" Today, Chris works with Italy’s finest artisans, creating shoes crafted with passion and pride.
