About this Event
There is a βtoolkitβ of skills and knowledge related to food that can help individuals maximize their well-being (food security, health, etc.). The toolkit should include, but not be limited to, nutrition awareness, cooking, growing food, accessing available resources, and understanding whatβs in food. Not every person may use every tool every day, but ideally everyone can have every tool in case they need it. This event hopes to explore the current state of food and nutrition education in Connecticut, identifying which skills from the toolkit are widely taught, which are less widely available, and opportunities to expand access to education opportunities for all residents.
The event will begin with an expert presentation on what existing research says about the importance of food education, which methods are most effective, and the limitations of education when not paired with supports to make food structurally more affordable and accessible. It will then move to a community panel discussion where educators, students, and parents to share their experiences with food education.
