Clymer & Kurtz in concert at the home of Joseph and Ranene in Broadway, Virginia. Coffee & tea and a charcuterie & dessert board will be provided at intermission (BYOB). Doors open at 5:30.
Clymer & Kurtz is an “exquisite!” “subtle,” “always imaginative,” and “soul filling” folk-rock singer-songwriter duo from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Over the Rhine described their 2023 EP What If You Knew with “It’s all so lovely with a quietness that makes it feel like a surprise when eyes suddenly fill with tears. Beautiful.” Maria Clymer (vocals, guitar, piano, light percussion) and Christopher Kurtz (vocals, guitar) have been partners in life and music for more than two decades, along the way releasing albums and EPs that trace the landscapes and jagged edges of daily life.
Inspired by Over the Rhine, Indigo Girls, The Proclaimers, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Diamond Rio, Alison Krauss, Donna the Buffalo, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, and many others, Clymer & Kurtz seamlessly blends intense and gentle melodies textured with harmonies, agile and inventive guitar playing, piano, and sometimes percussion, crafting music that is at once simple and rich, emotive and unique.
