The Hilo Community Players proudly present A Christmas Carol: The Musical, a heartwarming holiday production running December 6–22, 2024 at the AOF Building, located at 280 Keawe Street in downtown Hilo.This enchanting adaptation of Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens, with stage direction by Rachel Klein, musical direction by Rachel Edwards, and choreography by Salome Douglas.
The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Ricky Alvarez), a cold-hearted businessman whose life is defined by greed and disdain for others. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner, Jacob Marley (Theon Weber), who warns him to change his ways before it's too late. Marley arranges for Scrooge to meet three mysterious spirits:
The Ghost of Christmas Past, played by Zoe Douglas, reveals Scrooge's early life, including his close relationship with his sister Fan (Juniper Regrutto), his joyful days working for the spirited Mr. & Mrs. Fezziwig (Allan Anderson & Melinda Polet) respectively and softer moments with the love of his life, Emily (Reina Irving).
The Ghost of Christmas Present, portrayed by Miranda Taylor, introduces Scrooge to the lives of those around him, such as the kind-hearted Cratchit family, led by Bob Cratchit (Ben McMillan) and Mrs. Cratchit (Lorene Livingston), and their hopeful young son Tiny Tim (John Douglas).
The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, brought to life by Barbara Johnson, offers Scrooge a haunting glimpse of what the future may hold if he continues down his current path.
Through vivid memories, joyful moments, and chilling visions, Scrooge is forced to confront the choices that have shaped his life and the impact of his actions on others.
