Join us at the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association for a vibrant celebration of Black History Month by the Village of Oak Park!
About this Event

The Village of Oak Park invites the community to its Annual Black History Month Celebration, honoring 100 years since the first national Black History Week was established in 1926.

This year’s theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” reflects on the enduring legacy of Black history observances and their vital role in education, culture, and collective memory; from their origins as a week of study to today’s month-long national celebration.

This family-friendly program will feature music, dance, historical reflection, and storytelling that celebrate the richness and resilience of Black history and culture. The program will also include a special keynote address by acclaimed author and speaker Maggie Anderson.

The celebration will be held at the historic Nineteenth Century Charitable Association. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., with the program beginning promptly at 11:00 a.m. and concluding at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required as space is limited. Community members of all ages are encouraged to join us in commemorating this historic milestone.
