A Celebration of Barochois by Cynthia French
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Perfect Books
Please join us to celebrate Barachois by the late Newfoundland/Nova Scotia poet Cynthia French, published by Askance Publishing. Cythia's work will be read by Frances Boyle, Claudia Coutu Radmore, and Deborah Anne Tunney, and L.M. Rochefort.
"How fortunate for all of us – poetry lovers, friends, family – to have been left the gift of Barachois. It represents a form of lyric autobiography, rich with the poetic characteristics that mirror Cynthia French’s virtues as a human being, especially her warmth, humour, sensitivity; her astute perceptions of family, friends, and the natural world; her curiosity, sharp as a fox’s nose; and – not least – her capacity for acute self examination. Reading Barachois, I come away with a sense of a domestic and artistic life lived with great integrity, which includes not just honesty, candour, and moral depth, but the way its elements speak to one another, the way they integrate. I also come away with a renewed sense of the importance of poetry as a private and personal art form, a meditative instrument that is wholly independent of its public profile.” (From the foreword by Don McKay)
