Kick off the holiday season with A Bluegrass Christmas and Concerto with John Reischman and the Jaybirds. Featuring music from the award-winning group’s upcoming album as well as the West Coast debut of a recently commissioned Reischman concerto with special guest Patrick M'Gonigle.Reischman was one of three artists -- including Bela Fleck and Cynthia Sayer -- commissioned by the FreshGrass Festival Foundation to write a concerto to be played at the 2024 FreshGrass Festival in North Adams, Ma. in September.
"This was quite an honour - both inspiring, and a little stressful, but ultimately very exciting. A concerto consists of three movements - fast, slow, fast, so my approach was to write three separate, but related tunes" Reischman explains.
In the spirit of the season a portion of the proceeds will go to Our Place Society, which assists vulnerable populations in the Victoria region.
Bluegrass Unlimited calls John Reischman “one of the world’s undisputed masters” of the mandolin, famed for his outstanding tone and taste.
This annual concert, now in its 15th year, is often a sellout so advance ticket purchases are recommended.
