Sadly, another SoCal icon has been lost to the musical heavens. This time, the effect has reverberated through the SoCal blues music industry like no other in recent memory.
Gino played on a different level than most all other guitar players I have ever seen perform.
(From close friend Janice Palmer). "He was born with a musical gift of synesthesia which allowed him to experience music in a unique way. Some Synesthetes might see colors, shapes or textures when they hear music or feel emotions or sensations associated with specific musical notes or chords."
That actually explains quite a bit. This "trait" perhaps simply augmented Gino's unique style of guitar passion. He was......simply that, unique.

I seriously doubt that Gino ever played the same thing.....the same way twice. With an axe in his hands, his genius wouldn't allow for that. He was perpetually creating, improvising and evolving, musically. While on stage, you couldn't wait to see what he might do next with his guitar. While watching him play at Old Town Blues Club, I observed that there was no doubt that he owned that fretboard as he utilized every note on every string on every fret.....his guitars respected him for that. His gift, gave his guitars their opportunity to fulfill their purpose. He just mastered them and made them slave to his genius.
Gino's legacy is "the admiration" that so many other amazing musicians feel for him. Come share in this celebration of a musical life, that was cut way too short, yet that leaves a significant and magnificent impact on the region's music industry.
