“The Picnic” launches our 26th Annual Celebrando Heritage Project, featuring Puerto Rican Master artists direct from the island.
Join us beneath the trees of our Batey for a vibrant afternoon of cultural workshops, music, and participatory dance traditions. Experience the living heritage of Jíbaro, Bomba, Plena, and Taíno Areyto, alongside a beautiful cultural exchange with the classical dance traditions of India.
Interactive Performances Include:
• Paracumbé bringing powerful Southern Bomba y Plena traditions directly from Puerto Rico
• Austin Dance India presenting the classical Indian dance form Bharata Natyam
• Puerto Rican folkloric dance featuring original Jíbaro, Bomba, and Plena music and dance
• Kacike Tekina-eirú leading a joyful Taíno Areyto (ceremonial song and dance)
• Bring your country’s flag! Join our community flag-waving dance celebration and grand finale
