9. QFFM | All Shall Be Well

Als Pat stirbt, zeigt sich – erst in Zwischentöten und Unstimmigkeiten darüber, wie die Beerdigung gestaltet werden soll, dann in einem radikalen Rauswurf aus Pats und Angies gemeinsamer Eigentumswohnung – dass Pats Familie Angie nach all den Jahren gemeinsamen Familienlebens eben doch nicht als zugehörig und gleichwertig ansieht. Von Szene zu Szene wird sichtbarer, wie voraussetzungsreich und bedingungsvoll ihre Akzeptanz und Zuneigung war, denn sie können Pat nur ihr Vermögen und zu Hause rauben, weil das lesbische Paar keine anerkannte Ehe aus dem Ausland vorweisen kann.

Ein leiser und zärtlicher Film, der neben der bedrückenden Realität von Erbschaft und einer Akzeptanz, die oft nur so lange währt, bis der eigene Vorteil straighter Menschen in Gefahr ist, sondern auch von queerer Liebe im Alter und liebevollen, heilsamen queeren Freund*innenschaften, die gemeinsam neue Ritualen der Trauer und Erinnerung finden, aber auch jene sind, die oft nicht in Logiken des Erbens vorkommen.

When Pat dies, it becomes clear - first in subtle undertones and disagreements about how the funeral should be organized, then in the radical eviction from Pat and Angie's shared apartment - that Pat's family, after all these years of family life together, does not see Angie as belonging and equal. From scene to scene, it becomes more apparent how conditional their acceptance and affection was, as they can only rob Pat of her property and home because the lesbian couple cannot provide evidence of a recognized marriage from abroad.

A quiet and tender film that, alongside the oppressive reality of inheritance and a solidarity that often only lasts until straight people's own advantage is at risk, is also about queer love in old age and loving, healing queer friendships that find new rituals of mourning and remembrance together, but are also those that often do not feature in the logic of inheritance.
