O'Fallon Municipal Center (City Hall), at the 9/11 Memorial
On September 11, 2001, there were 2,977 people who died in the horrific attacks that changed our country forever. We promised not to forget, and we haven’t. 𝓦𝓪𝓵𝓴 𝓽𝓸 𝓻𝓮𝓶𝓮𝓶𝓫𝓮𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶.
A 17-foot memorial, A Tribute to First Responders, was created from 22 tons of steel salvaged from the destruction of the World Trade Center and is located in the east lot of O'Fallon City Hall. It is dedicated to the 346 firefighters and 37 police officers who perished as they attempted to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. 𝓦𝓪𝓵𝓴 𝓽𝓸 𝓱𝓸𝓷𝓸𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶.
The morning begins with a ceremony at the 9/11 memorial at 8:30am, followed by a 1-mile walk at 9am that reflects on the sacrifices made, honors those who continue to inspire us, and ends in a show of patriotism along Main Street.
Prior to the start of the walk, pick up photos and stories of the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice when they ran into the danger to help others. 𝓦𝓪𝓵𝓴 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶 𝓽𝓸 𝓼𝓱𝓸𝔀 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝔂 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝓯𝓸𝓻𝓰𝓸𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓷.
