Now entering its 7th year, THOROUGHBRED: The Black Derby has evolved into one of Arkansas’ most unique and culturally impactful experiences. More than an event, The Black Derby is a celebration of culture, community, music, style, and purpose, bringing together professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and tastemakers for an elevated experience rooted in connection and impact.
Founded by Gerald D. Thomas, THOROUGHBRED was created to reimagine what community-centered fundraising could look and feel like. What began as a brunch experience has grown into a signature annual event that blends entertainment, storytelling, and philanthropy while directly supporting initiatives focused on wellness, mentorship, education, and community engagement.
The 7th anniversary experience continues that tradition with intentional programming, elevated hospitality, live entertainment, curated activations, and meaningful community partnerships designed to create lasting memories while driving real impact.
Most importantly, proceeds from THOROUGHBRED directly support the work of The G.D.T. Foundation, including Year 2 of The Recalibration Retreat: Unburdened, a no-cost mental wellness symposium designed to provide individuals with space, tools, and resources to reset, reflect, and realign mentally, emotionally, and personally.
THOROUGHBRED is where culture meets purpose. Where celebration meets impact. And where community continues to gather, grow, and give back together.
