The author of “Paths of Destruction: The Story of West Michigan's Worst Natural Disaster, the Tornadoes of April 3, 1956” (published by the Grand Rapids Historical Society) chronicles the devastating F5 tornado outbreak that struck West Michigan. The storm killed nearly 20 people, injured hundreds, and destroyed neighborhoods in Hudsonville and Standale.
