The Don & Catharine Bryan Cultural Series is proud to support the Pea Island Preservation Society, Inc.'s 6th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, alongside Outer Banks Dreams Realty and TowneBank.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, it is celebrated as a day of remembrance, reflection, and joy, honoring freedom and the enduring contributions of African Americans to our nation's history and culture.
Join the Pea Island Preservation Society for an evening of music, history, and community featuring Manteo's own Tshombe Selby, special guests K Soul & Company, and the return of Edward Gantt, whose engaging living-history presentations bring the stories of the United States Colored Troops to life.
This annual celebration offers an opportunity to come together as a community, honor the past, celebrate the present, and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.
We invite you to join us for this meaningful and inspiring event.
