Experience level - beginner is fine but at least some experience of hand sewing.
Join me in the cat cabin for a course full of whimsy and uplifting creativity! You won't make a replica of the one pictured, you will get creative choosing fabrics, expressions, stitching and colour schemes to really put your own stamp on your final character.
This will be a playful course, we will be hand stitching but you are welcome to use a machine in between classes -
Week 1 -
A morning exploring 3D textile forms. This morning will consist of playing with simple fabric shapes and how we can use stitch and experimentation to create unexpected characters. So many fun results come from this foundation.
Week 2 -
Making the paper pattern for your character, cutting the fabrics out and stitching them up. I will have templates available for simple cats and bunnies and you can adjust to suit the kind of character you want to make. We will complete the head and body ready for wiring and stuffing next week!
Week 3 - Wiring the limbs, making the feet and little boots. Adding any hand painted details.
Week 4 -
Embroidery techniques. Learning some simple embroidery stitches and playing with colour ready to embroider your face and head and anywhere else you may choose! We will then start embroidering these and any other selected pieces. You may well want to continue this embroidery between week 4 and 5 if you want an elaborately decorated final character.
Week 5 -
Attach the head and limbs together. Make and add clothing in a simplified way with some simple little tricks I will teach you.
Week 6 -
Has your character told you their name yet? We will use this session for any further finishing and to consider their story.
Full email support - I will be on hand to answer any email queries during the entire 6 weeks of the course so you feel fully supported in between classes.
What you will need -
You are welcome to bring any fabrics, threads and trinkets you would like to use but I will be providing everything you need and a little cat shaped sewing kit to take away with you! (see pics)
You may want to bring an apron or old shirt to wear on the days we are painting but it will only be a little delicate painting and not big messy sploshing around!
There will be tea and biscuits provided, a lovely retreat for all 6 of the participants to simply enjoy time together with likemindeds! I have met so many lovely folk on these workshops and can't wait to see what comes out of these longer courses!
The cabin is a super cute space to work in, I look forward to seeing you there!
