FAQ
What will I be doing in the class?
Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie facts, decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies that you will take home with you that day.
Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?
Yes! Many parents or practicing cookiers purchase additional class kits to take home and re-do the classes. You can purchase an add-on kit during check-out. Your kit will be available at the end of your class - so don't forget it! If you’re skipping class and just ordering a kit – swing by anytime during class to sneak in and pick it up – it’ll be labeled with your name!
Do I need to know how to bake?
Nope! No baking experience required. We will have the cookies pre-made for you along with the icing already mixed and colored. Have a little decorating experience under your belt… er… apron? Come on too! I can help with questions on icing mixing and dough spread!
What will we learn in class?
You’ll learn what goes into preparing royal icing, the value of different icing consistencies – we’ll touch on tips and tricks to make your cookies look even better than they taste (and they taste good)! You’ll also learn different decorating techniques depending on the class theme such as marbling, outlining, wet-on-wet, brush embroidery, and painting. Or hey – go off script and make your own designs – it’s your class!
What do I need to bring?
Nothing but a smile! Everything will be provided for you including my (rather tasty) sugar cookies and a glass of wine from Armstrong Valley Winery! All you need to do is join us and have fun! Messy decorator? You can bring your own apron or just wear easy-to-wash clothing. There is a PowerPoint for reference, so if you wear glasses, we'd encourage you to bring them as well. Oh – and bring your phone – I love photos!
What age is best for cookie classes?
Although most of our classes are good for almost any age, this class is for adults only!
What will I bring home?
By the end of the class, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry for 24 - 48 hours in their own box. I’ll send you an Amazon link with a list of the tools we used in class so that you can recreate these cookies at home. And of course, you’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!
Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?
You can sign up either as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more the merrier! We are limited to a total of 20 seats per class, so definitely sign up ASAP!
Where are the classes located?
This class will be held at Armstrong Valley Winery, Halifax, PA.
I signed up for a class but can't make it?
:( We understand that life happens so that’s why we allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend though (and what a nice friend you are). Any cancelation after the 7 days will be rolled to a future class up to 1 year from the cancelation date. Please read below for our Cancelation Policies.
Things to Bring
Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!
· Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).
· Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but if things get blurry far away, seeing glasses may be a great bet.
· Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone!
· Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.
About Kat's Crafted Cookies
Who doesn’t love going out and doing something fun while also eating delicious cookies!? That’s what our cookie decorating classes are all about!
These classes cater to the beginner cookier or people just looking to have fun learning a new skill. Whether you just want a fun date, a girls-or-guys-night-out or just want to explore what cookie decorating is on your own - we have a seat for you.
For our classes, all you will need to bring is yourself (and an apron if you are a messy decorator), and I’ll take care of the rest. Oh – and bring eyeglasses so you can see the instructional PowerPoint if your eyesight is anything like mine. You will get a set of pre-baked cookies (pretty tasty if I do say so myself) as well as all the supplies you will need to decorate them during the 2 hour class. You will leave the class with your very own box of your very own newly decorated cookies!
A little about me – I’ve been decorating sugar cookies since 2020 – and I’ve not put down a scribe since (don’t know what a scribe is? I’ll teach you in class!). My favorite cookie themes to decorate are Valentine's Day and Christmas – but I can do pretty much any theme if icing’s involved. I love what I do –who wouldn’t love making cookies?! It’s the sweetest job in the world!
Oh yeah - I will have classes throughout the year which highlight different themes so make sure to follow me so you can get in on all the cookie action!
Cancelation / Refund / Sick Policy
Before 7 Days Out:
If you’re sick or know you will not be able to attend the class for any reason prior to the 7-day refund cutoff, you can cancel for a full refund! And I will say thank you for your courtesy. You can request the refund through eventbrite.
After 7-Days Out:
For any cancellation prior to your class’s start time but after the 7-day refund policy, please email us before your class’s start time, and we’ll give you a credit for the next class or another future class! Class credits must be used within 1 year from the issue date.
You Don't Show Up or Email Prior To Class:
If I do not hear from you before your class’s start time, and you do not show up for class, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit even if you're sick. So please reach out before class if you’re feeling sick!
If Kat's Crafted Cookies Cancels:
If the class is cancelled by us, due to insufficient ticket sales or due to illness, we will give you a choice of refund or class credit for a future class. We do require a minimum of 6 registrants to hold the class.
DIY Take-home Kits
Take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! These class kits come with everything you need to replicate our class at home, and I’ll email you the class PowerPoint so you can follow our step-by-step instructions at home! Cookie Class DIY Kits are created before your class, and you'll pick them up and take them with you after class.
These are an add-on take-home offering. You do not need to purchase this to participate in the in-person class.
How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store your icing, your kits can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies keeps them fresh for a long time, but I recommend using your kit as soon as possible - ideally in the first week after you've taken it home. Cookies are heat sealed for freshness – but again, use it in under a week to make sure it tastes the best.
