“A three-day celebration of creative writing and reciting
in the Nation’s Oldest City.”

Beat Poet Summit followed by community open mic hour

The festival kicks off with a Beat Poet Summit on Thursday night featuring ten minutes of podium time awarded to any past or present Beat Poet Laureate who gets “On the Road ” like Kerouac, and travels to the Sunshine State. A community open mic will follow. The sign-up sheet for the open mic portion is available at 6 pm and open to the first 10 people. Please limit your time at the podium to five minutes.
Free open to the public event at the Waterworks.

The festival continues during the day on Friday with author discussions, author talks, and a keynote presentation at the historic downtown campus of Flagler College. In the evening, the English Department will host an off-campus open mic.

Blackout Poetry Workshop

This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the creative art form of blackout poetry, where existing text is used to create new poems by redacting (blacking out) unwanted words. Presented by Flagler College's Proctor Library.

Menorcans who came to St. Augustine in 1777 brought memories of a different landscape, “…our old world/the rocks and winds of Menorca.” Looking back 250 years later, the ghost of another settler reminds Menorcan descendants “Keep your good dreams./Good dreams won’t pull you/away from those you love./Good dreams remember/your heart is Menorcan.” City of St. Augustine Poet Laureate 2025-2026 and Menorcan Cultural Society Poet Laureate Dr. Ann Browning Masters will read from the raw beauty of these Menorcan voices in her new and second book of poetry, “Menorcans: A Long View.”

Day Three of Three
The festival continues today and concludes in the afternoon with an awards ceremony for the winners of the St. Johns Cultural Council Haiku Contest, followed by a reception.

This interactive mobile workshop will provide the materials needed for participants to create their own "mini-poetry chapbook" utilizing zine techniques. Please feel free to bring your own poems printed on paper, and we can turn them into mini chapbooks using collage and zine- making. Presented by Ma Bones of Dead Last Press.
