Cooking for a Cause is back again this year! This year we will be raising money for 3 year old Alynna. Alynna was diagnosed with a very rare genetic disease called Glycogen Storage Disease type 1a shortly before her first birthday. There is no cure for it. With this disease, her liver doesn't have the enzyme needed to breakdown glucose to turn into energy. She has to eat every 2 hours, even throughout the night, in order to sustain her sugars. The only treatment for her disease is cornstarch. It is a complex carb that her body is able to breakdown and turn into sugar. Recently funds were raised to get Alynna a service dog to help alert her family when her sugars are critically low especially overnight. All funds raised at the Cook-Off will go to the family to help pay for the dog's training and any other medical needs they have.
The location this year is at the Oval at Riverside Park. For $10 a plate, you will be able to try BBQ from all the teams that competed in the cook-off. You will also be given 5 tickets to vote for the team or teams of your choosing as having the best BBQ there. It will start at 12:30pm and go until the teams run out of food (which usually doesn't take long. There is usually a lot of people that show up to eat.)
