What: 52 Hike Challenge - MN Chapter | #OptOutside Slowdown Group Hike at Battle Creek
🌿 Join our 52 Hike Challenge crew for the 2026 #OptOutside Black Friday Group Hike
When: Friday, November 27, 10am - 12:30pm
Where: Battle Creek Recreation Center, Battle Creek Regional Park in St. Paul, MN
Trail details & ability level: This hike will be approximately 3 miles, with a couple hills. In general, the route will be fairly gradual. The trail itself is a wide cross country ski trail when there is snow, so we should have plenty of space to spread out. The route will loop to and from near the parking area a few times, so there will be 3 or 4 opportunities for people to shorten their hike, if needed.
Our Slowdown Hikes are designed to meet the needs to those who are recovering from injuries, who need a slower pace, or who may be returning to hiking after an absence. All abilities are encouraged to attend. (The #OptOutside Slowdown will not feature a "rest and reset" mindfulness break, but taking your own reset time in nature, post hike, is encouraged.)
We will be mindful of weather conditions before this hike, to ensure everyone's safety. This includes temperature, ice/snow - rain/storms, and any elemental conditions as they present themselves. If there is a cancellation necessary, we will try to do so within 24hrs of the day of the hike.
What to bring: Weather appropriate clothing, which means appropriate layers to stay warm, a beanie/hat, gloves, consider boots or supportive footwear, proper hydration, a daypack or similar with water, personal needs, hand warmers if you need them, your Hiking 10 essentials, and a positive attitude!
Due to a larger group setting, no dogs or pets unless they are working/service animals.
🌿 Thanks to a generous stipend from our friends at REI, we will have treats for a small social gathering after our hike back at the picnic shelter. Hopefully you can plan some extra time to join us!
Parking/Admission: Parking and admission is FREE!
Meet at the picnic shelter to the right of the enterence, next to the baseball fields.
Use the Google Map Coordinates and the photo of the parking lot for accurate directions!
WARNING: There are multiple "trailheads" within Battle Creek Regional Park. You want the RECREATION CENTER. View the map image carefully! You may see this referred to as the "Winthrop Unit" online.
