517 Community Week Fall Open House
Schedule
Sat Oct 04 2025 at 11:00 am to 04:00 pm
UTC-04:00Location
Lansing Model Railroad Club | Lansing, MI
Held in conjunction with 517 Living Community Week, the Lansing Model Railroad Club is hosting its annual fall open house on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. See trains running on the club's beautiful HO scale layout that is housed in the 1890s vintage Grand Trunk Western Railroad Millet Depot.
Visitors can get a birds-eye overhead walkway view of cities, rail yards, mountains, bridges, and more, or a layout level panoramic view from our new building addition. Trains run using North Coast Engineering digital command control (DCC) system. Based on Michigan scenery, construction continues on the layout expansion project consisting of three different levels. This fun project allows for increased train operations, more cities and more industries, which is a great opportunity for people interested in building a model railroad to learn how it is done.
Visitors also can tour the restored Michigan Avenue (MA) Tower that was moved to the club’s property in September 2016. Built in the early 1900s, MA Tower once controlled the Michigan Avenue railroad crossing gates and a railroad junction near downtown Lansing. It is the only surviving railroad tower from the Lansing area.
Admission and parking is free on paved lot. There is a handicap ramp accessible to the first floor.
