Kallen Esperian to Headline Hot Springs Concert Band Anniversary Concert
The Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village is the place to be on Sunday, October 12, if you enjoy music, and especially a variety of music – all the way from marches to opera and from Broadway to Hollywood. And... there will be some nostalgia as well, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Hot Springs Concert Band (HSCB).
The Hot Springs Concert Band, one of Arkansas’s most beloved and enduring musical organizations and institutions, has been entertaining generations for a half-century, led by seven conductors through more than 400 musicians and 500 concerts since 1975.What began as a senior citizen band of 20 members grew into a full scale concert band of more than 70 members substantially contributing to the artistic culture of Hot Springs, Hot Springs Village and other areas of central Arkansas. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of the Band, or discovering these talented musicians for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to be a part of a milestone concert and local history.
On October 12, the Band will present a program that journeys through five decades of favorite selections, cherished memories, and new surprises. Speaking of surprises, the band is especially pleased and proud to feature two wonderful guest artists for the concert.
World renowned/internationally acclaimed opera soprano Kallen Esperian has graced the world’s most prestigious stages with her breathtaking vocals and will soon grace the Woodlands Auditorium stage, joining the Band in three selections: “Habanera from Carmen,” “La Vie En Rose,” and “I Could Have Danced All Night.” Her artistry and emotional power promise to transcend music genres and move and inspire all within the sound of her voice. The esteemed former conductor of the HSCB and one of Arkansas’ leading music educators, Dr. Craig Hamilton, returns to the stage and will lead the Band in two selections that pay tribute to the traditional repertoire and heritage of concert band music and the Band’s rich history: “Semper Fidelis” and “Irish Tune from County Derby.” As a passionate champion of concert band music for decades, Dr. Hamilton’s leadership has made an indelible mark on the HSCB, intermediate school band programs, and the community band movement in Arkansas and beyond.
