4th Annual Pillars of Dignity and Justice Awards Ceremony
About this Event
One of the most basic understandings of justice in our criminal legal system is the right to be represented by a qualified and trained lawyer regardless of our race, religious beliefs or socio-economic status. This responsibility to uphold that principle falls squarely on the shoulders of public defenders around the country. Despite a cultural tendency to celebrate prosecutors over public defenders, and despite the disparity in funding between these two offices, public defenders work tirelessly against the odds to ensure that the rights of their clients are protected.
On Saturday, October 3rd, Pillars of the Community will be joined by keynote speaker Emily Galvin-Almanza to celebrate the incredible work and dedication of San Diego public defenders. Emily will be doing a special reading from her book, The Price of Mercy: Unfair Trials, a Violent System, and a Public Defender's Search for Justice in America. As a part of the celebration we will recognize a few standout individuals for their commitment to their clients and outstanding service.
