Evan's 4th Annual CDH Warrior Classic basketball tournament will be a charity event to raise money for CHOP for CDH Research. Evan was diagnosed with a severe case of CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia) at my 20-week anatomy scan. This is a rare birth defect where the diaphragm does not fully form correctly in utero, allowing the organs in the abdomen to migrate into the chest, greatly impacting the development and growth of the lungs.
After having fetal surgery, being born at CHOP and staying in the NICU for 4 months, Evan is home and thankfully thriving. He is a very happy and very active 4 year old.
The one thing I have learned about CDH in the past three years, is that every baby with CDH is different. There is no cure for CDH as researchers haven't found a cause for it yet.
That is where you come in! This tournament is about raising money for CDH Research. My hope is that some day in the near future, no one has to live through what we did. My hope is that a cure will be found and babies will no longer suffer from this awful birth defect.
