43rd Annual Distinguished Citizens Banquet Honoring Howard & John Thies

Each year the Midnight Sun Council honors those who make a substantial contribution to our community. In 2026 we are excited to honor the father and son team of Howard & John Thies as our 43rd Annual Distinguished Citizens. We are asking you to join us at this fundraiser for the Midnight Sun Council, Scouting America.
This father and son duo were both born and raised in Fairbanks, graduated from Lathrop High School. Howard (1967) and John (2006 with SUMA CUM LAUDE) received full college scholarships and attended University of Alaska Fairbanks. John graduated on the Dean’s List.
Howard & John are both actively involved in the community. Howard has worked hard at bringing Arctic Man Ski and Snogo, Classic Chamber Rubber Duck Race & The Morris Thompson Golf Tourney. John, founded Worry-Free Alaska, established Golden Heart Waste Management (GHWM) & the Shred Way Company.
Howard and John are grateful for residing in Fairbanks and contributing to its betterment. The 43rd Annual Distinguished Citizens banquet honoring Howard & John will be held at the Wedgewood conference center (the old Antique Car Museum) in Fairbanks on Wednesday, December 9th, 2026. Please join us in donating to this worthwhile cause & thank you for supporting Scouting in Interior.
