Forty years ago, Diego Maradona scored two goals that changed football history forever.
On 22 June 1986, England and Argentina met in a World Cup quarter-final that remains one of the most talked-about, debated and emotionally charged matches the game has ever seen. Four decades on, join us for a special evening marking the 40th anniversary of the Hand of God and the publication of The Other Side of the Hand of God by Asif Burhan.
As part of the evening, visitors will have the rare opportunity to view two remarkable pieces of football history:
• Peter Shilton's match-worn England shirt from the 1986 World Cup quarter-final against Argentina
• A 1986 Diego Maradona match-issued Argentina shirt
These iconic items will be on public display in partnership with BUDDS, Europe's leading specialist in sports memorabilia, ahead of its Exceptional World Cup Auctions taking place on 25 June.
The evening will feature former England midfielder Peter Reid, who played in the match, alongside author Asif Burhan and special guests.
Drawing on extensive new research and first-hand testimony from players, commentators, journalists and photographers, The Other Side of the Hand of God explores the story behind football's most infamous game and the extraordinary events that unfolded in Mexico City on that unforgettable afternoon.
The evening will include:
• A live interview and audience Q&A with Peter Reid and Asif Burhan
• Discussion of the match, its lasting legacy and its place in football history
• Contributions from special guests and fellow World Cup authors
• Opportunities to purchase books and have them signed
• Rare 1986 World Cup memorabilia on display
