4 Session Raku Pottery Class with Erik Lindstrom
What to Expect in the Raku Class:
In the first two classes, participants will be able to create pottery pieces using Basic hand building techniques. Advanced students will also be given the opportunity to use the Potter’s wheel however, no previous experience is necessary to take this class.
In the third class, we will focus on glazing:
You will apply specialty raku glazes to pre-fired pieces. These glazes often contain metallic oxides that interact uniquely with fire and smoke.
The fourth class will be “The Firing Performance“:
You will watch the kiln heat up to around 1850°F. Once the glaze melts, pieces are carefully extracted from the intense heat using metal tongs. The glowing pottery is immediately placed into a metal container with combustible materials. Starving the pot of oxygen creates vivid colors and unique smoke patterns on the exposed areas. After smoking, the ceramics are quenched in water to halt the chemical reaction, then scrubbed to reveal the final design.
4 session class is $175
