4 peaks evening 4x4 run
Advertisement
Welcome to the first run of the season, and there's something for everyone! This will be a transitional run from afternoon to evening, with an optional second part. The difficulty will also transition as well with 4 peaks being beginner friendly, to a more intermediate drive for the optional 2nd part. Lets get into it-
Meetup will be at 2pm at the Dollar tree parking lot off of Shea rd near the 87 in fountain hills. We'll meet at the parking spots closer to Shea rd. There is a Circle K accross the street. Be sure to fill up BEFORE meetup.
From there, we'll head out to the 87, and take it to our airdown spot. Airdown will be at the mesquite wash turn off, east of the 87 (33.730628, -111.509064). We'll air down, and take this side quest over to the 4 peaks trail to get warmed up. The trail should take anywhere between 2 to 3 hours possibly depending on the group size. The trail eventually dumps out on the the 188. This is where we have the option of either taking the 188 back to the 87 to town, or for the optional second part night run.. We can take the intermediate 2 bar ridge trail back to apache trail, and out near the supersitions. 2 bar is a moderate trail that took us a little over an hour to do last time, and apache trail should be fun at sunset/night.
Both trails should be suitable for stock 4x4 vehicles with low range and all terrain tires. Please be sure to have a full size/ matching size spare and some sort of recovery gear in case. ( ie tire plug kit, strap/kinetic rope, 2 d shackles) We will also be running GMRS radios, probably ch 19 or 20 depending on how active they are.
You will need a tonto pass as we will be in Tonto National forest. They run $8 and can be obtained close by either at the Circle K accross the street, or at various locations such as Circle K, Fry's, Bashas', QuikTrip, and Safeway.
