About the Author

Patricia McLaughlin is a retired choral music director and public school teacher who graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Through poetry and short stories, McLaughlin has catalogued her childhood growing up in a working-class suburb of Detroit during the 1950s & 1960s. In 2024 she self-published her memoir “Don’t Look”, recounting the events that transpired in 2022, when her son Dan passed away from complications related to his mental illness. McLaughlin weaves the memory of her departed mother throughout the narrative to help balance the heartache that is mental illness with the wisdom that is faith and love. Patricia McLaughlin lives and writes in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her stories may also be found @meteredandfree.substack.com.
