3rd Quarterly Meeting of 2026
Local author Frances Bistline Stephan will be giving a talk on her recently published book "Forty Acres and a Grove: Growing Up in Central Florida Before Disney" at the 3rd Quarterly Meeting on 8/25.
She summarizes her book as being about how she grew up in Longwood, Florida, a town her ancestors helped settle in 1881. On forty acres of rustic pine, oak, lake and citrus grove she learned that adventure abounds and nature always wins. Forty Acres and a Grove tells the story of a world long forgotten and never to return: rural Central Florida in the 1950’s -1960’s. Her stories of alligators, snakes, panthers, armadillos, floods, droughts and freezes bring insight to the real Florida.
Light refreshments will be served. The talk is free, and open to the public! For more information, please call 407-665-2489.
