Ride Details:
This is a SAFETY focused ride bringing together experienced riders and riders who are new to the mountains but are comfortable in a group setting. There is no need to try and keep up outside of your comfort zone on this ride. The purpose of this ride is to explore the beautiful route and build knowledge of the area so you can come back in a smaller group and ride at your own pace.
*THIS IS NOT A FAST-PACED RIDE + NO RECKLESS BEHAVIOR*
We will be riding at or below the speed limit to prevent rubber banding and encourage riders to have situational awareness that allows riders passing room in the straightaways especially when they are being held up in the corners. A polite use of the horn is sometimes necessary to keep everyone safe and having fun. If you feel uncomfortable with the pace of those in-front of you ride at your own pace and allow riders to pass until a group expert or tail gunner passes you leads you at a comfortable pace.
Participant Details:
There is a vast spectrum of skilled riders that show up to this ride. I like to split them up into 4 categories.
Riders who know the roads and are veterans of my rides:
These riders are crucial to the effectiveness of this ride. They can offer guidance, an extra eye, and their enthusiasm is infectious!
Riders who don't know the roads but are comfortable on group rides (Like Two Wheel Tuesday, The Unity Ride, or The First of the Year ride):
These riders are in for a treat. This awesome journey we will lead you on is both challenging and a blast to ride. Some of the corners will be tighter than you expect so extra care will benefit you. You should be wearing the best gear you can afford. It is always a good idea to remember who around you is a group expert. Ask them questions, they can help you work on your form or help you understand what does and doesn't help in the twisties!
Riders who don't know the roads and have never been on a group ride before:
These riders should be prepared for a day of riding through increasingly difficult roads. This is a long, all-day adventure. You should prepare by getting comfortable with your bike's inputs and maintaining control in various conditions and emergencies such as panic braking and using your brakes to adjust your turning radius. Parking lot drills are a great place to start. You should be wearing the best gear you can afford. Keep an eye on the rider in front of you and pair up with a group expert if you feel uncomfortable or you are afraid of getting lost.
Brand new riders:
If you have a few months of experience riding your bike and are still learning to control it, this is not the ride for you.
If you have a bike that is leaking or broken in any way or you have not invested in riding gear, this is not the ride for you.
If you think that riding education is not for you and you are confident that your experience riding in the dirt or riding recklessly on the streets is sufficient, this is not the ride for you.
Please take this ride seriously and prepare yourselves and your bikes! Back by popular demand, Heather Porter will be returning to capture more side of the road action photos of the group as we ride past! In order to stay on schedule and keep the group together for the best outcome please be punctual and organized!
If you have been on this ride or another one of my blue ridge rides in the past, comment below with your experience and a photo from one of our past adventures! Looking forward to riding with all of you again!
